³ General Account Terms and Requirements. You must sign up for our Overdraft Protection service and link a TIAA Direct High Yield Savings or Money Market account to your TIAA Direct Interest Checking account. For a check or debit card purchase transaction that would result in negative balance of more than $10 in your Interest Checking account, the Overdraft Protection service will automatically transfer funds—in full $100 increments only—to prevent the negative balance [i.e., overdraft] or a returned check or declined debit card transaction. There is no fee for our Overdraft Protection service. Overdraft Protection applies only to check and debit card transactions on an Interest Checking account, and depends on the sufficiency of available funds in your linked High Yield Savings or Money Market account. If you have available funds in your linked account, but not enough to cover the check or purchase in full $100 increments, the Overdraft Protection service will not transfer any funds, and you may be subject to an overdraft or returned check fee or a declined debit card transaction. For example, if a debit card purchase would cause your Interest Checking account balance to be -$135, Overdraft Protection would transfer $200 from your linked account, if such funds are available. However, if your linked account had less than $200 of available funds, no Overdraft Protection transfer would be made, and your transaction could be declined.

Payment of Bonus. Funds transferred from an existing TIAA Direct account do not count toward the qualifying minimum balance for this promotional offer. If the qualifications described above are met, the $250 bonus will be credited to the account within 91 to 104 days of account opening, provided that the account remains open and is not overdrawn or subject to any holds, restrictions, or legal action or dispute on the bonus payment date.

Limited Time Offer. The Annual Percentage Yield (APY) for the High Yield Savings account depends on the balance in the account. The minimum opening deposit for a High Yield Savings account is $100, which must be made within 60 days of account opening or the account may be closed. Interest is compounded daily, based on the rate in effect at the end of the day. All rates are variable and subject to change without notice before or after the account is opened. Effective as of 10/10/2016, APY for all balance tiers is 0.65%. Fees could reduce earnings on the account.

⁴ Transfers and withdrawals from a High Yield Savings are generally limited to a combined total of six per monthly statement cycle. Cash withdrawals and transfers to your other TIAA Direct accounts using an ATM do not count toward this limit. An Excessive Transaction Fee of $5 will be charged for each covered transfer or withdrawal that exceeds the six transaction limit.
